“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” – Galatians 5:13
I remember it like it was yesterday. The wind blowing through my hair. The sunset in front of me. Freedom was on the horizon. My confidence was growing as I took the training wheels off my bicycle and was ready to ride with the big kids. In fact, I decided I was ready to integrate jumps, wheelies, and other “dangerous” moves into my arsenal of beginner riding skills. Unfortunately, my confidence was bigger than my skill set. After attempting my first wheelie, I somehow managed to flip over the handle bars, splitting my chin on the pavement….OUCH! After a visit to the doctors and several stitches, I was ready for the road to recovery.
Many of us have experienced wounds that cut to the core. The problem is that most of our wounds have held us captive with the belief that what we’ve done has disqualified us from being used by God. It’s time to let that belief go. Guilt and shame don’t belong to you anymore. They belong to the one who uttered the words, “IT IS FINISHED.“
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2)
Let’s be honest, you’ll feel pain again, but this time you’ll be ready. People will attempt to explain to you why you can’t, but they aren’t the one who has called you to freedom. Surround yourself with those who accept your past, support your present, and encourage your future. It’s time to be free.
“You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom.” (Galatians 5:7-8)
