This morning, I had a few moments to stop and reflect on Christmas. At first I began thinking about the smell of a real Christmas tree, the lights, wreaths, bells, and gifts that I would both give and receive. I then began thinking about Christmas movies like: Rudolph (the original), Miracle on 34th Street (the original), A Christmas Story, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and Elf. After laughing uncontrollably for a few minutes replaying parts of each movie in my head, I began to think about what really matters.
Christmas is by far my favorite holiday. But why? Well to be honest, I love the reality that a majority of people are cheerful during this time of year although there are a few Scrooge’s out there. I love that families do their best to come together to enjoy each other. I love that people who do not normally attend church (CEO’s = Christmas & Easter Only) finally come and the church has a great opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus with them that will radically shape their lives forever. I love fresh-baked cookies and sitting by the fire.
Although all of these are great reasons to love Christmas, there is one reason that is more significant than all the others. We celebrate Christmas because of Jesus. Isn’t it mind-blowing that the birth of a child would shake the world forever? Can you imagine being on the scene? What would it have been liked to look at a tiny baby knowing that this child would be the Savior of the world?
Jesus’ birth has taught me so much and I thought I’d take a few moments today to share with you some of the things God has revealed to me concerning the birth of His son. I’ll entitle this list: The Baby Is Proof.
The Baby Is Proof…
1. That the greatest success stories start small
2. That God’s plan doesn’t always look the way we think it looks
3. That God really does love us
4. That God doesn’t need perfect circumstances to accomplish His purpose
5. That God is with us
6. That God is a personal and relational God
7. We are all born with a purpose
I hope that this year you will take a few moments to reflect on how the birth of Jesus has changed everything for you!
