On November 10th, 2013, our church started what is called 52 Days of Thanks and Praise! Beginning November 10th, it was calculated that there are 52 days left in 2013. As a church, we felt that there was no better way to finish 2013 than to spend everyday thanking a God who is worthy of all our praise!
52 Days of Thanks and Praise was based on Isaiah 60:18 which says, No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. Sometimes the things in your life are shaped by what you call it.
Although we are only 12 days in, I wanted to share with you the impact it has made on my life. Each day, we were asked to wake up and read aloud a praise prompt (see pic below). There is nothing magical about these praise prompts; rather, they serve as a guide to get us into a habit of praising God to begin the day.
Since starting this 52 Days of Thanks and Praise, I have found myself more aware of the blessings of God around me. I have noticed a shift in mentality from being a critic to being a cheerleader. In other words, instead of finding fault in others, I am looking for ways to encourage them. Because we are in the middle of our 52 days, I found it appropriate to share with you a few things that I am thankful for:
1. My relationship with Jesus (Since the age of 18, Jesus has continued to show Himself faithful to me, regardless of my faithlessness. Jesus is my foundation. He is the one who has given me life and purpose. I am forever grateful for a Savior who has taken my place on the cross so that I can spend eternity with Him.)
2. My family (As I get older, I have realized that I have truly been blessed to have the family I have. I have two amazing, Godly parents who have set an incredible example for me. I have three brothers who are truly my best friends. Although we pick on each other often and make fun, I wouldn’t have it any other way. We love each other and always have each others back regardless of what life throws at us. I have amazing sister-in-laws. They all bring such joy to our family. My nephews and nieces. I have the absolute funniest, cutest, and smartest nieces and nephews ever. Each one of them have a smile and a way about them to brighten your day.I am thankful for the grandparents I have, those who have passed and my granddad who is still with us. Each of them has imparted wisdom to me in ways I could never repay them. My aunts and uncles are incredible. To put it best, they support, encourage, and love me at all times. My cousins. I can’t imagine having better cousins. From the family football games growing up to the hardships that we have faced recently, we all love each other and lift each other up.)
3. My wife (God has blessed me with the most amazing wife and beautiful stepson. My wife has taught me how to persevere in trial, fight for family, never give up, and so much more. She has challenged me in ways that have grown my faith. She is beautiful, funny, witty, humble, sweet, spontaneous, compassionate, loving, and caring. I am so grateful that I get to do life with her. She is my best friend. I am truly blessed to get to grow old with her and advance the Gospel together.)
4. My stepson (When I married my wife, I not only gained and spouse, I got an amazing stepson. His smile is one of a kind. His playful heart brings such joy and energy to our family. The way he gives hugs and kisses to my wife and I melts my heart. He is extremely smart and loves to sing songs about Jesus. I am honored to be a leader spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally for him as he gets older.
