Can you think of a time in your life when you’ve been distracted? If you’re like me, distraction is something that you encounter on a regular basis. Whether it is someone trying to carry a conversation with you during a sporting event (not a good idea) or your mind wandering off to crazy places when you’re supposed to be focused on something else, there’s a good chance you’ve been distracted.
After returning home from a great dinner with my wife and our close friend, God revealed something to me that was mind-blowing and more importantly, life changing. Too many people are starving their spirit because they are too busy feeding their sin. While this may be an obvious observation for many, it took root in a new and fresh way in my spirit. Here’s what God revealed to me:
The more distracted you are, the less you’ll accomplish for the Kingdom of God.
As I sat and pondered on this word, I began to realize that this was not just true for my circumstances, this was a word that God wants to get to all believers! So what’s your distraction? We live in a world full of distractions. We live in a world where the media would rather stir controversy than find solutions. Are you in a relationship that pleases yourself more than God? Are you so busy at work that you don’t have time to invest in your own family? Are you in a marriage where you continually look at the failures rather than celebrate the victories? Maybe you’re so wrapped up in arguing politics that you miss your opportunity to share the Gospel? Are the circumstances in your life clouding your vision to the point you have a hard time seeing Jesus?
If the enemy can’t jeopardize your character, he’ll gladly keep you distracted. My prayer is that after reading this, you will find a piece of paper and begin writing down your distractions. Find out what it is that is holding you back. The Bible tells us in Galatians 5:7-10 that,
You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? (my translation: what is you distraction?) It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom.
Whatever your distraction is, address it and remove it. God has a plan for you! Don’t let the enemy distract you from what God wants to do in and through you! You were created with a purpose!
The Lord gave me this message:
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!”
The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said,
“Look, I have put my words in your mouth!
Today I appoint you to stand up
against nations and kingdoms.
