Watch Me Live My Life

Have you ever felt like you carry a target on your back? No matter where you go or who you’re around, someone is watching you? Ever since I was a young boy, I’ll never forget the words that my dad shared with me on the baseball field:

“There is always someone watching you, so be a good example.”

I know at the time he was probably referring to my attitude in competitive sports, but for me, it was so much more. As an 8-year-old boy, those words struck a chord with me that has had a lasting impression. You see, from that day forward, I knew people were always watching. Whether it be someone younger looking up to me, a peer following my example, or an elder critiquing my actions, I was always being watched.

Although this was a good feeling to know that I was the center of attention for different times in my life, I was unaware of the responsibility it meant I would have to carry. You see, when you become a leader, you also take on more responsibility. With more responsibility comes more pressure. With more pressure comes tougher decisions. With tougher decisions comes a higher risk of failure. Is that what I signed up for?

Right now as I write this message to you, I am 29 years old. I have lived a life with both ups and downs. I have made decisions that have helped others and have also made decisions that have hurt others, including myself. So why am I telling you this? Because someone is watching you. They may be admiring you, they may be following you, or the may be critiquing you. Whatever the case may be, step up to the challenge.

I can tell you from experience, the rewards are worth the risks. If you fail 99 times, get up 100 times! It doesn’t matter where you’ve been in your past, start today by living with a new motto:

My prayer for you today is that no matter where you are in your life, you will stop for a moment and decide it’s time to be a leader. From this moment on, you will live a life in a way that will lead people closer to Jesus! I will be pulling for you in this new journey! Right now is the right time to do the right thing!
