The Power of Influence

“The true measure of leadership is influence…nothing more, nothing less.” – John Maxwell

As I was on my way to work this morning, I began to think about the people who had impacted my life in significant ways. I started thinking about the power of influence. In order to help you understand where I am going with this, I believe it is critical that we define influence. Influence is the ability to produce an effect upon others. Influence is a powerful tool that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It has the ability to change lives, to push someone towards success or failure, and even has an impact on future generations.

We all go through life receiving influence from and giving influence to others. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 that both good and bad influences are operating all around us. It is common sense that you take on the character of those with whom you chose to associate. Proverbs 13:20 states, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.”

I will be the first to admit that I have made foolish decisions in my life that could have potentially ruined me. But it was in those times, I had people in my life who cared for me and influenced my life to get back up and press on.

Regardless of what you’re going through, find those in your life who will tell you the truth even when it’s hard to hear; those who will love you no matter what; those who will stand by your side when everyone else turns away, and most importantly; those who will point you to Jesus at ALL times.

Today, I’m thankful for those who have encouraged, empowered, and enabled me to become greater! To those of you who have impacted my life, thank you. I am forever grateful for your influence in my life.

  1. You too have this power of influence or what I like to call a spiritual gift. Your gift allows you to reach people, but better than that it allows you to command people to listen. It is a wonderful gift and in my opinion you use it well. Even so do not stop with that because you still have not reached your potential, how sweet is that. My God bless
