If You Only Knew

This past weekend at Ignite Church, I had the privilege of preaching from the text John 4:1-35. The story is when Jesus went through Samaria and asked a Samaritan woman for water. Through this Scripture, there are 5 points that God really spoke to me on in which I believe will really help you.

1. Don’t Miss It!

The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” v.9

In this particular Scripture, it is evident that the Samaritan woman was missing the point. I believe that sinners today are so caught up in the physical ways of the world that they miss the opportunities that God has right in front of them!

2. If You Only Knew!

Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” v. 10

If you only knew what God wants to do with your life! If you only knew the ways God wants to use you! If you only knew the promises God has made you! If you only knew…

The Samaritan woman clearly did not understand what she was missing. Jesus tells her of two things she was ignorant of:

a. The gift of God = Salvation

b. Who she was speaking to = Jesus (The Messiah)

3. There Are No Secrets With God

Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!” v.16-17

Let’s just state the reality: Anything you try to cover up before God, He will uncover before man. But anything you uncover before God, He will cover before man.

4. Don’t Fight It. Just Let It Happen

The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. Then Jesus told her, “I AM the Messiah!” v. 25-26

I believe one of the greatest things we struggle with is fighting with God. We want control, yet He is in control. We continually wait for God to show up in a burning bush but he has already shown up in so many other ways. Stop fighting God, just trust him. Faith is not about trying, it’s about trusting!

Stop trying to play chess with God. He’s got you right where he wants you. Let Him control the game!

5. Wake up! You’ve slept long enough!

You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. v. 35

The church has been silent too long! It’s time to rise up and make some noise! Have you ever been sleeping sound and then your alarm goes off and your body goes from a deep sleep to wide awake in no time!? I believe that God is sounding the alarm for the church today so that we can wake up and change the world!

The world is hungry and thirsty for Jesus so let’s give them the bread of life and the living water.
