This past weekend was one of the first weekends I have had to relax and enjoy watching football. Saturday and Sunday were filled with big hits and big plays with fans going crazy everywhere! I was on the edge of my seat as I cheered for random teams. As the day went on, I noticed that in what seemed like every game, there was a big play in which the team scored a touchdown! The only problem was that every time a big play happened, I heard the announcer say something like, “Hold on, IT’S COMING BACK! There’s a flag on the play.”
Has that ever happened to you? Maybe your life is going great and you are continuing to build momentum towards a better life and all of a sudden, in one instance, it happens. A penalty. A mistake. A failure. Whatever name you want to give it, it happens and seems to erase everything that you’ve worked for! You’ve spent all this time working hard to get closer to Jesus and through a lapse in judgement, you fall short.
I have noticed that when the penalties in life happen, we have two responses we can choose between. You can get back up or you can stay down. I want to share some lyrics with you to the song “Get Back Up” by Toby Mac. I pray this gives you encouragement to get back up regardless of the penalty you’ve committed.
We lose our way,
We get back up again
It’s never too late to get back up again,
One day you will shine again,
You may be knocked down,
But not out forever!
How will you respond? Remember: Jesus has already paid the price for your sin. I would encourage you to get back up and live your life for Him! Let’s change the world together! Get back up and show the world what the grace of God is all about! I’m so thankful that we serve a God of second chances!
